India's Poster Child For Criminalisation Of Parliament

It was just another visit to an online campaign site - NoCriminals.org - except the figures I saw shook me up. In the current Indian parliament(2004), one in five MPs had criminal records, including some with charges of heinous crimes such as murder, rape, dacoity and kidnapping. And, guess which political party leads in bringing these criminals to parliament? JMM led by their leader in the pic here! To even mention his name here would be giving him undue importance.

An astounding 100% of JMM members in parliament had criminal charges! The other top contributors to criminals in Parliament are shown in this screenshot from NoCriminals.org.

With this quality(!) of politicians filling up 20% of our Parliament, is it any surprise, that...
...we keep watching the noisy and violent drama in the House regularly,
...anti-corruption laws are never allowed to pass, the one's which pass are tweaked to be practically ineffective,
...the powers of Lokayukta are curbed to make them toothless,
...terrorists can walk in and out of country or attack at their whim.

The fact that it took 5 years for this information to come out is intriguing. Or, may be I was living under some rock. In any case, was the entire government, administration and judiciary sleeping for past 5 years? How can they allow such a thing to happen?

Time has come to put an end to this grave threat looming on our heads. It's time we join campaigns like NoCriminals, IndiaLightning, LeadIndia, National Election Watch, ADRIndia etc. to together make sure that criminals and corrupt DO NOT enter the Parliament in 2009. Please go out to vote, and say NO to criminals in Election 2009. It's a huge step for our combined future as a country. You don't have a choice.

Is Airtel Website Hacked Or Dead?

My Airtel postpaid connection suddenly started displaying "Inactive SIM" 2 hours back. I'm not able to receive or make calls. And, even Airtel's 121 customer care number wouldn't connect.

I tried to access the airtel website - http://www.airtel.in/ - but, looks like that's also dead!! See the screenshot below -

I tried going thru' Google search and clicking airtel link, but same result. With a few tries I came to even this screen below...

What's really going on here? Is the domain expired really? or hacked? Why shouldn't I ask for compensation from Airtel? First their service isn't accessible to me, and to top it, I can't contact them thru' phone or their website!

This is the kind of carelessness India's top cellular operator displays, when a customer is desperately looking to contact them. Has someone experienced similar situation? Do let me know...

World Anti-Corruption Day: What Can You Do?

Corruption is no more something whispered about. The corruption and incompetent administration is causing widespread intolerance among citizens, esp. after the widely covered Mumbai terror attacks. The callous and corrupt public offices have yet again resulted in a major tragedy with 500+ lives affected, and millions of others in fear and shock.

People know today that blaming the 'other' country would just not help - we need to make our own administration and public offices strong and secure enough to withstand any external attack. But with criminals and corrupt occupying public offices and governance, people are only waiting for tragedy to happen.

World AIDS Day: 5 Resources To Learn All About AIDS

The number of people living with HIV is now estimated at a staggering 33 million worldwide. HIV is a serious long-term condition and people living with HIV often face discrimination. So, this years' World AIDS Day theme has been decided as "Respect & Protect".

'Respect & Protect' inspires individuals to consider the different roles they can play:
    * Show respect by always treating people living with HIV fairly, respecting their confidentiality and challenging prejudice wherever it occurs.
    * Respect themselves and their partners by always practising safe sex to protect their sexual health.
    * Find out the facts about HIV, spread the Respect & Protect message and encourage others to do the same.

Is there a cure for HIV?
No, but treatment can keep the virus under control and the immune system healthy. People on HIV treatment can live a healthy, active life, although they may experience side effects from the treatment. If HIV is diagnosed late, treatment may be less effective in preventing AIDS.
